In order to ensure that your booth arrives on time and at the right
place, it is important that you are familiar with the shipping terminology
that is commonly used in the portable
trade show display industry. The following trade show shipping
terms are not listed in any particular order:
Shipping
Case - A reusable container used to transport exhibit
material.
Shipping Crate - A wooden or metallic container used to transport
exhibit material.
Packing List - A document provided by the shipper which gives information
on the contents of the package or crate.
Shrink Wrap - A tight plastic wrap used to protect material during
shipping or transportation.
Advance Shipping - Sending your exhibit material to the warehouse
of your trade show's manager as opposed to shipping directly to the
show.
Expedited Shipping - Any method of shipping other than the carrier's
standard method.
Pallet - A flat, wooden slat which can be grabbed by a forklift.
Often exhibit hardware is packed on top of a pallet for ease of transportation.
Most large trade shows or conventions offer at least
a few options with regards to shipping. Most exhibitors will ship their
display to the hotel where their booth staffers are staying, but many
exhibitors elect to ship their trade show display directly to the show to be held
by the show manager.
